User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must perform a specific action on a malicious page. The specific flaw exists within the archive extraction functionality. A crafted archive entry can cause the creation of an arbitrary file without the Mark-Of-The-Web. An attacker can leverage this in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user. Was ZDI-CAN-23156.
CVE-2023-40477 1 Rarlab 1 Winrar 2025-06-20 N/A N/A
RARLAB WinRAR Recovery Volume Improper Validation of Array Index Remote Code Execution Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of RARLAB WinRAR. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the processing of recovery volumes. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in a memory access past the end of an allocated buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-21233.
CVE-2024-36052 2 Microsoft, Rarlab 2 Windows, Winrar 2025-06-20 N/A N/A
RARLAB WinRAR before 7.00, on Windows, allows attackers to spoof the screen output via ANSI escape sequences, a different issue than CVE-2024-33899.
CVE-2024-33899 3 Linux, Opengroup, Rarlab 3 Linux Kernel, Unix, Winrar 2025-06-20 N/A N/A
RARLAB WinRAR before 7.00, on Linux and UNIX platforms, allows attackers to spoof the screen output, or cause a denial of service, via ANSI escape sequences.
CVE-2018-20250 1 Rarlab 1 Winrar 2025-03-13 6.8 MEDIUM 7.8 HIGH
In WinRAR versions prior to and including 5.61, There is path traversal vulnerability when crafting the filename field of the ACE format (in UNACEV2.dll). When the filename field is manipulated with specific patterns, the destination (extraction) folder is ignored, thus treating the filename as an absolute path.
CVE-2022-30333 4 Debian, Linux, Opengroup and 1 more 4 Debian Linux, Linux Kernel, Unix and 1 more 2025-03-13 5.0 MEDIUM 7.5 HIGH
RARLAB UnRAR before 6.12 on Linux and UNIX allows directory traversal to write to files during an extract (aka unpack) operation, as demonstrated by creating a ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file. NOTE: WinRAR and Android RAR are unaffected.
CVE-2023-38831 1 Rarlab 1 Winrar 2024-12-20 N/A 7.8 HIGH
RARLAB WinRAR before 6.23 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code when a user attempts to view a benign file within a ZIP archive. The issue occurs because a ZIP archive may include a benign file (such as an ordinary .JPG file) and also a folder that has the same name as the benign file, and the contents of the folder (which may include executable content) are processed during an attempt to access only the benign file. This was exploited in the wild in April through October 2023.
CVE-2022-48579 1 Rarlab 1 Unrar 2023-08-17 N/A 7.5 HIGH
UnRAR before 6.2.3 allows extraction of files outside of the destination folder via symlink chains.
CVE-2022-43650 1 Rarlab 1 Winrar 2023-04-06 N/A 7.1 HIGH
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to disclose sensitive information on affected installations of RARLAB WinRAR 6.11.0.0. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the parsing of ZIP files. Crafted data in a ZIP file can trigger a read past the end of an allocated buffer. An attacker can leverage this in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-19232.
CVE-2017-14121 2 Debian, Rarlab 2 Debian Linux, Unrar 2021-10-18 4.3 MEDIUM 5.5 MEDIUM
The DecodeNumber function in unrarlib.c in unrar 0.0.1 (aka unrar-free or unrar-gpl) suffers from a NULL pointer dereference flaw triggered by a crafted RAR archive. NOTE: this may be the same as one of the several test cases in the CVE-2017-11189 references.
CVE-2018-25018 2 Linux, Rarlab 2 Linux Kernel, Unrar 2021-07-07 6.8 MEDIUM 7.8 HIGH
