Windows Print Spooler Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability
CVE-2022-26612 | 2 Apache, Microsoft | 2 Hadoop, Windows | 2023-08-08 | 7.5 HIGH | 9.8 CRITICAL |
In Apache Hadoop, The unTar function uses unTarUsingJava function on Windows and the built-in tar utility on Unix and other OSes. As a result, a TAR entry may create a symlink under the expected extraction directory which points to an external directory. A subsequent TAR entry may extract an arbitrary file into the external directory using the symlink name. This however would be caught by the same targetDirPath check on Unix because of the getCanonicalPath call. However on Windows, getCanonicalPath doesn't resolve symbolic links, which bypasses the check. unpackEntries during TAR extraction follows symbolic links which allows writing outside expected base directory on Windows. This was addressed in Apache Hadoop 3.2.3
CVE-2022-25856 | 1 Argo Events Project | 1 Argo Events | 2023-08-08 | 5.0 MEDIUM | 7.5 HIGH |
The package github.com/argoproj/argo-events/sensors/artifacts before 1.7.1 are vulnerable to Directory Traversal in the (g *GitArtifactReader).Read() API in git.go. This could allow arbitrary file reads if the GitArtifactReader is provided a pathname containing a symbolic link or an implicit directory name such as ...
CVE-2023-4052 | 1 Mozilla | 2 Firefox, Firefox Esr | 2023-08-07 | N/A | 6.5 MEDIUM |
The Firefox updater created a directory writable by non-privileged users. When uninstalling Firefox, any files in that directory would be recursively deleted with the permissions of the uninstalling user account. This could be combined with creation of a junction (a form of symbolic link) to allow arbitrary file deletion controlled by the non-privileged user. *This bug only affects Firefox on Windows. Other operating systems are unaffected.* This vulnerability affects Firefox < 116, Firefox ESR < 115.1, and Thunderbird < 115.1.
CVE-2023-4053 | 1 Mozilla | 1 Firefox | 2023-08-04 | N/A | 6.5 MEDIUM |
A website could have obscured the full screen notification by using a URL with a scheme handled by an external program, such as a mailto URL. This could have led to user confusion and possible spoofing attacks. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 116.
CVE-2021-31187 | 1 Microsoft | 1 Windows 10 | 2023-08-02 | 7.2 HIGH | 7.8 HIGH |
Windows WalletService Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability
CVE-2022-45440 | 1 Zyxel | 2 Ax7501-b0, Ax7501-b0 Firmware | 2023-07-07 | N/A | 4.4 MEDIUM |
A vulnerability exists in the FTP server of the Zyxel AX7501-B0 firmware prior to V5.17(ABPC.3)C0, which processes symbolic links on external storage media. A local authenticated attacker with administrator privileges could abuse this vulnerability to access the root file system by creating a symbolic link on external storage media, such as a USB flash drive, and then logging into the FTP server on a vulnerable device.
CVE-2023-28071 | 2 Dell, Microsoft | 4 Alienware Update, Command Update, Update and 1 more | 2023-06-30 | N/A | 7.1 HIGH |
Dell Command | Update, Dell Update, and Alienware Update versions 4.9.0, A01 and prior contain an Insecure Operation on Windows Junction / Mount Point vulnerability. A local malicious user could potentially exploit this vulnerability to create arbitrary folder leading to permanent Denial of Service (DOS).
CVE-2023-28065 | 2 Dell, Microsoft | 4 Alienware Update, Command Update, Update and 1 more | 2023-06-30 | N/A | 7.3 HIGH |
Dell Command | Update, Dell Update, and Alienware Update versions 4.8.0 and prior contain an Insecure Operation on Windows Junction / Mount Point vulnerability. A local malicious user could potentially exploit this vulnerability leading to privilege escalation.
CVE-2023-32556 | 2 Microsoft, Trendmicro | 2 Windows, Apex One | 2023-06-30 | N/A | 5.5 MEDIUM |
A link following vulnerability in the Trend Micro Apex One and Apex One as a Service agent could allow a local attacker to disclose sensitive information. Please note: an attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability.

CVE-2019-11481 | 2 Apport Project, Canonical | 2 Apport, Ubuntu Linux | 2023-06-12 | 6.1 MEDIUM | 7.8 HIGH |
Kevin Backhouse discovered that apport would read a user-supplied configuration file with elevated privileges. By replacing the file with a symbolic link, a user could get apport to read any file on the system as root, with unknown consequences.
CVE-2021-41072 | 2 Debian, Squashfs-tools Project | 2 Debian Linux, Squashfs-tools | 2023-05-30 | 5.8 MEDIUM | 8.1 HIGH |
squashfs_opendir in unsquash-2.c in Squashfs-Tools 4.5 allows Directory Traversal, a different vulnerability than CVE-2021-40153. A squashfs filesystem that has been crafted to include a symbolic link and then contents under the same filename in a filesystem can cause unsquashfs to first create the symbolic link pointing outside the expected directory, and then the subsequent write operation will cause the unsquashfs process to write through the symbolic link elsewhere in the filesystem.
CVE-2023-28972 | 1 Juniper | 4 Junos, Nfx150, Nfx250 and 1 more | 2023-04-28 | N/A | 6.8 MEDIUM |
An Improper Link Resolution Before File Access vulnerability in console port access of Juniper Networks Junos OS on NFX Series allows an attacker to bypass console access controls. When "set system ports console insecure" is enabled, root login is disallowed for Junos OS as expected. However, the root password can be changed using "set system root-authentication plain-text-password" on NFX Series systems, leading to a possible administrative bypass with physical access to the console. Password recovery, changing the root password from a console, should not have been allowed from an insecure console. This is similar to the vulnerability described in CVE-2019-0035 but affects different platforms and in turn requires a different fix. This issue affects Juniper Networks Junos OS on NFX Series: 19.2 versions prior to 19.2R3-S7; 19.3 versions prior to 19.3R3-S8; 19.4 versions prior to 19.4R3-S12; 20.2 versions prior to 20.2R3-S8; 20.4 versions prior to 20.4R3-S7; 21.1 versions prior to 21.1R3-S5; 21.2 versions prior to 21.2R3-S4; 21.3 versions prior to 21.3R3-S3; 21.4 versions prior to 21.4R3-S2; 22.1 versions prior to 22.1R3-S1; 22.2 versions prior to 22.2R2-S1, 22.2R3; 22.3 versions prior to 22.3R1-S2, 22.3R2.
